Last Valentine’s

100 words x 365 days

Every day she waited. She found them the most beautiful things ever given. Diamonds are forever, but his gift only lasted a day. Not without flaws, each different, the petals contained veins that brought life to the rose. He promised her that each day would be an adventure that would last forever but forever is for fairytales and Disney stories. The darker the days, his mind began to fade. With self-induced sadness overwhelming his soul, he sent his last memory in the form of a rose. “I will love you until the petals wither out and die like the memory of our love.”
